About Anne
My name is Anne Derryberry. I am an analyst and advisor for serious games, online learning games, simulations and virtual worlds. I work with learning organizations, game developers, tools developers, and analysts as learning architect, advisor, consultant, speaker, and industry observer.
My professional life has been devoted to workpace learning. My particular fascination in this space is with group experience and how groups learn in virtual environments, especially through games. The emphasis in that sentence was on "group". "Group" in this context does not mean a collection of people whose individual statistics are aggregated together. "Groups", or cohorts, are a collection of people who are identified in advance and for whom the experience has been designed.
As an entrepreneur, I'm constantly mulling over business models and monetization strategies. In order for serious games to gain wide-spread adoption, commercial developers will need to figure out how to make money in this space. To do that, design and business minds must wrestle with the ever more pressing problem of how to make learning and meaningful play into profitable and sustainable business. As a friend likes to say, "I know there's a pony in here somewhere."
I decided to blog because there is precious little valuable discussion in these areas. This is my contribution to bridging that gap.
Please feel free to contact me for consulting, speaking, writing, and about this blog. I look forward to hearing from you.

Let me introduce myself: Froukje (Frankie) Brouwer, living in the beautiful city of Santa Cruz, CA where I work for UC College Prep Online (UCCP), a statewide initiative of the University of California.
UCCP develops and distributes high-quality courses and course content to benefit California students, with a special emphasis on helping underserved students prepare for college eligibility. But if you do not live in California, well hey, nothing is going to stop you from using them too.
Look for more information on www.uccp.org and www.ucopenaccess.org
UCCP recently switched to Moodle and made its best course content freely available to California students and teachers.
We are now searching for companies specializing in Online course development for development of our new courses. I found your website and wanted to know if you want to receive an RFP. We are planning to send them out through email before the end of February.
Please let me know if you are interested, and what the email address would be we can send it to.

Hi, Anne! I think my husband George I served on an ISPI committee with you years ago. Great to find you again! Love the idea of gaming, would be able to design a world set up the rules/ logic behind it, but not sure I could ever get a company to agree to put up the $$ to develop it. That said, I see the Army is gaming and my friends at 3-D Solve are doing some cool stuff with the military, food industry, etc. Who else is out there doing serious gaming?
