Hello! I am Michael Armentrout.
I am very pleased to have recently joined Anne Derryberry in partnership here at I'm Serious.net. I have long admired Anne for her talents in learning design. Her commitment to serious games as a 21st century learning technology is inspiring.
After a fair amount of persuasive discussion, Anne "hooked me" by demonstrating to me two important details: first, serious games will change the lives of people all across the globe, and secondly, my background and expertise around investments and financial services, financial accounting and auditing, sales and marketing, and not-for-profit management and fundraising provide tools to impact the growth of the serious games industry in very positive ways.
Anne and I see ourselves as "accelerators" in the serious games industry. In several ways, we endeavor to impact the development of 3D immersive learning simulations. In particular, we see significant pieces of the industry developing independently of each other, and we believe strategic networking and collaboration will greatly enhance the advancement of serious games. We develop case studies and white papers, along with strategy memoranda for specific clients and projects around which we find vision and energy. As we develop relationships in government, university, corporate, and learning design settings, we understand the potential to help opportunity knock on many doors around the world.
For my part, I am focused on developing and advising on funding and monetization strategies; revenue models; business plans; capital formation and fundraising; and marketing analysis and strategy. I will also contribute to strategy for developing the industry beyond "money" matters, because money without content is as worthless as content without money. I have seen some significant gaps in the business strategies at play, and I know that there are great, visionary minds at work on the issues. I'm serious about being a contributor to the conversations that must take place to ensure the viability and durability of serious games.
I hope that many of our readers will engage with me in conversation about these important issues! I have plenty to learn here, along with everyone else, and I eagerly welcome that dialogue.
